Product Overview
Bona Mega Varnish is a water-based, polyurethane floor varnish. Ideal for offices, small shops, hotel rooms and domestic properties, Bona Mega offers the performance of a 2K floor varnish in a ready-to-use formula. Provides excellent flow and levelling to give an exceptional, professional looking finish every time.

Preparation
Previously waxed, polished or oiled floors cannot be overcoated with Bona Mega unless sanded back to bare wood. Prior to application the timber surface should be prepared to a smooth finish, cleaned and dry. Recoating previously sealed floors with Bona Mega lacquer, should be done after screen buffing and cleaning the surface of dirt and any contamination.
- Complete sanding back to bare wood with finishing in fine grits between 80 - 120
- Screen buff the timber surface for maximum smoothness with 80 - 150 grits
- Vacuum clean traces of dust from the area to be sealed
- For filling small gaps between floor boards and skirting boards, use Bona Gap Master Filler, 310 mm.
- Apply Bona Primer Classic or an alternative wood primer, as per project requirements
Wood Floor Primers
For application to bare wood floors we recommend using a wood primer. Primers help with adhesion between the varnish and floor and can help with the colouration of the final finish. Bona Mega is compatible with the following primers:
Application
Prior to application of Bona Mega shake well container and always test on a dry surface for a product suitability. Read manufacturer recommendation, product expiry date on labelling and check environment temperature is below 13°C or above 25°C during application and drying. Dry environment and higher temperature may require an increased 'open time' of the lacquer, which can be achieved with adding Bona Retarder to finish.
The following applicators are recommended for application of Bona Mega:- Use brush, roller or floor applicator to apply a thin coat of the product.
- Apply 2 coats over Bona Prime Classic or other type primer, depending on the project requirements.
- Start from the edge of the area with a smooth flowing action across and with the grain of the wood.
- Make sure appliaction is even without excessive overlaping.
- Allow 1 to 2 hours drying time per coat and anticipate drying time will increase with every coat applied.
- Apply 2 coats or more coats if required, with minimum of 3 coats including primer for wooden floors.
- Lightly sand or denib using a sanding screen or the Bona Scrad System, grit 150 or finer before application of the final coat.
Please Note: Do not cover recently sealed floors with plastic protection like correx or similar products, as this can cause damage to uncured finish.
Lacquer Features
It has all the advantages of a waterbased system, but still gives a deep, rich colouration similar to a solvent based finish. Bona Mega is available in ExtraMatt, Matt, SilkMatt & Gloss sheens.
