Elka Flooring
Elka engineered flooring is a truly practical product, chosen for its strength, flexibility of installation and overall stability. It perfectly mimics a solid wood floor, but is actually made of three or more layers of real wood with an upper layer of genuine hardwood. It can be used in conservatories and in conjunction with underfloor heating.
Installation
Planks with 20 mm thickness provide excellent solidness and flooring stability even if laid as suspended floors onto batten or timber joists. They can be secret-nailed, glued-down or floated (with underlay) and usually available with extended life span guarantee. Glue-down installation is highly recommended for subfloors with underfloor heating system.
Hardwood Wearable Layer
This engineered flooring product comes with 4 mm real wood top layer, which provides sufficient depth for renovating your floors at least once after installation.
Oak Flooring
Oak is an extremely versatile wood type - a medium density hardwood, with strength, character and durability surpasses many other timber species. Oak starts soft and malleable, but once dry becomes hard and durable. Whether aged by the weather or preserved with a suitable stain or varnish, the beauty of Oak is undeniable. Its distinctive look exudes quality, and its rich colouring and attractive woodgrain deliver an elegant texture. Its rustic look is able to add instant charm and character to any application, whether situated internally or externally.
Rustic Character
This flooring product is available in Rustic grade - selection of the timber which allows various sizes of knotts and colour variation between the planks. Rustic grade flooring can add more character and natural feeling to environment.
Natural Oiled Finish
Oil based finishes seal timber by soaking into the wooden surface and therefore tend to provide a more natural feel and look of the timber. Quite often wooden floors are sealed with oil after going through a "brushing" process, which embosses the texture of the wooden surface. Floors with such finish are referred to as "Brushed & Oiled".
This type of finish is less durable compared to the lacquer, but allows recoating of your wooden floors. This can have some benefits in terms of maintenance, as recoating can delay the complete renovation of the floors, which uses the process of sanding and reduces the wearable thickness of the wooden floors.
The oil-based finishes however are slow-drying (6-10 hours per coat) and it may be difficult in terms of planning and furniture to apply a new top coat in a busy household. In fact, due to this inconvenience many household tend to delay recoating of oiled floors and end up renovating their floors too early.
Maintenance of Oiled Floors
Oiled floors infuse environment with a natural feeling, but do require tender care. Cleaning the floors regularly with an appropriate cleaner or topping up with maintence oil, helps prolong the life of your oiled floors. Our recommendation for cleaning oiled floors goes for Bona Spray Mop for Oiled Floors.
