The Timberlay Engineered Mocha Oak Flooring, Matt Lacquered, 190x3x14 Mm is part of our TimberLay Oak Rustic flooring collection, adding a natural touch to every environment. This 190 mm wide flooring plank comes with 3 mm top layer and Click joint system.

Hardwood Wear Layer

Timberlay Engineered Mocha Oak Flooring, Matt Lacquered, 190x3x14 Mm has a 3 mm real hardwood top layer, the most popular and cost-effective wear layer for engineered wood flooring. The top layer, or wear layer, is the solid wood surface you walk on. Its thickness decides how many times the floor can be sanded and refinished during its life.

A professional sanding usually removes around 0.5–1 mm of timber, so a 3 mm wear layer can typically be renovated at least once, and often twice. Between sandings, the finish can also be refreshed with a recoat of lacquer or maintenance oil, without sanding back to bare wood.

It's a great choice for bedrooms, living rooms and rental properties, giving you the authentic look and feel of real wood at a more affordable price. Compare other 3 mm top layer floors, or browse our full engineered wood flooring range.

Durable Lacquered Finish

A lacquered finish seals the wood beneath a clear, hard-wearing layer, making it one of the most practical choices for a real wood floor. Spills, dirt and moisture stay on the surface instead of soaking into the timber, so they can simply be wiped away before they leave a mark, and the floor stands up well to everyday foot traffic.

Lacquered floors are also among the easiest to look after. There is no regular re-oiling to plan for: sweeping or vacuuming, with an occasional damp mop using a cleaner made for lacquered floors, keeps them looking their best. The smooth, sealed surface doesn't hold on to dust either, making it ideal for kitchens, hallways, busy family homes and allergy sufferers.

Factory-applied lacquers are built up in several coats and cured for extra hardness, giving long-lasting protection in everyday use. Modern water-based lacquers are non-yellowing, so the floor keeps an even colour and sheen for years, with finishes from natural-looking extra matt to classic gloss to suit any interior. It is a finish that keeps your floor looking beautiful while adding lasting value to your home.

Brushed Surface

A brushed finish gives a wood floor a deeper, tactile texture you can both see and feel. During manufacture, before the oil or lacquer is applied, each plank is worked with rotating wire brushes. These remove some of the softer wood between the growth rings and leave the harder grain slightly raised, so the natural pattern of the timber stands out.

The effect is most striking on open-grained species such as oak. The textured surface also adds a little grip underfoot and helps disguise light scratches, scuffs and dust, which makes brushed floors a practical choice for hallways, kitchens and homes with children or pets.

Brushing works with both finishes: oiled floors gain a natural, matt character, while lacquered floors keep their texture with easy-care protection.

Oak Flooring

Oak is an extremely versatile wood type - a medium density hardwood, with strength, character and durability surpasses many other timber species. Oak starts soft and malleable, but once dry becomes hard and durable. Whether aged by the weather or preserved with a suitable stain or varnish, the beauty of Oak is undeniable. Its distinctive look exudes quality, and its rich colouring and attractive woodgrain deliver an elegant texture. Its rustic look is able to add instant charm and character to any application, whether situated internally or externally.

Rustic Character

Timberlay Engineered Mocha Oak Flooring, Matt Lacquered, 190x3x14 Mm is available in Rustic grade, a timber selection that allows knots of any size and natural colour variation between planks. Knots and small cracks are usually filled during manufacture, leaving a smooth, practical surface with plenty of character.

Rustic grade flooring adds warmth and authenticity to any space and suits country, industrial and Scandinavian styles alike. Its lively, varied surface also helps disguise everyday wear, dust and light scratches, which makes it a great choice for busy family homes, hallways and kitchens.

Because more of each log can be used, Rustic grade is often the best-value option in a collection. Grade describes appearance, not durability. Browse all Rustic grade flooring, or compare with the more even Natural grade.

Installation

Our 14 mm engineered wood flooring range is the most popular, thanks to its great value and wide choice of colours and finishes. Timberlay Engineered Mocha Oak Flooring, Matt Lacquered, 190x3x14 Mm has a tongue-and-groove joint and is ideal for a floating installation over concrete or timber subfloors. Lay it over a suitable underlay and glue the tongue-and-groove joints.

Where underfloor heating (UFH) is fitted, we recommend a full glue-down installation with a flexible wood flooring adhesive. This keeps the boards in close contact with the heated screed for better heat transfer and stability. You'll find suitable products in our adhesives & damp-proofers range.

Before fitting, let the boards acclimatise in the room for at least 48 hours, check that the subfloor is clean, dry and level, and leave a 10–15 mm expansion gap around the perimeter. Compare more 14 mm flooring options.

Maintenance

Lacquered wood floors are easy to look after. Vacuum with a hard-floor head or sweep regularly to remove grit, which can scratch the surface. Every so often, clean with a pH-neutral, lacquer-friendly cleaner that leaves no moisture or residue. For everyday cleaning we recommend the Bona Spray Mop with Bona Cleaner refills, available in our cleaning & maintenance range.

Avoid steam cleaners, wet mops, wax or oil-based polishes, which can damage the finish or make it slippery. Wipe up spills promptly, fit felt pads under furniture and use doormats at entrances to keep the floor looking new for longer.

When a busy area starts to look dull or worn, and the lacquer hasn't worn through to bare wood, it can be lightly abraded and given a fresh coat of floor lacquer without a full sanding.
