Product Overview
Bona Mega Natural is a single-component, water-based floor lacquer which offers excellent protection for wooden floors, but yet preserves the look and feel of the untreated wood. It offers the same durable protection for high foot traffic areas, just like the Bona Traffic HD Lacquer range. However, the surface to the touch feels more like raw, finely sanded wood. For the closest possible look to bare, untreated wood, pre-treat with Bona Natural Primer, 5L.

Please note: Only the hardener supplied with this product should be used. Hardeners from other products in the Bona Traffic HD range are not compatible with Traffic Natural.
Preparation
Ensure that floors to be varnished are clean, dry and free from all traces of dust, dirt, grit, oil, wax and any other surface contaminates before application.
- For filling gaps between floorboards and skirting boards, use Bona Gap Master Filler, 310 mm
- For filling holes, splits, dents and other surface imperfections, use Jenkins Wood Floor Joint Filler, 5L
Preparation of Pre-Varnished Floors
This product will normally have very good adhesion to factory finished and previously varnished flooring, however, it is advisable to check this adhesion prior to overcoating, with a suitable test area. The surface must be carefully cleaned and sanded prior to overcoating.
Preparation of Wax, Oiled or Polished Floors
Floors pre-treated with waxes, polishes or other similar products cannot be overcoated with Bona Traffic Natural and should be fully sanded back to bare wood to at least 120 grit, then treat as Bare Wooden Floors, below.
Preparation of Bare Wooden Floors
For bare, freshly sanded timber floors it is recommended to use Bona Natural Primer, 5L. Primers improve adhesion between the varnish and floor and can help with the colouration of the final finish.
Alternatively, bare floors can be coloured with a base stain like the light-fast range from Morrells - . before overcoating. In this scenario, omit the use of a primer.
Application
The most appropriate application conditions are between 18-25°C and 30-60% relative air humidity. High or low temperatures and humidity may shorten or lengthen the drying time. The minimum temperature for use is 13°C.
- Apply the lacquer using a suitable Bona applicator - roller or applicator, with a brush for perimeter
- Avoiding build-ups - apply with a smooth, flowing action
- Always maintain a "wet edge" to avoid any overlaps
- Allow 1-2 hours between the buffing or re-coating
- The drying time will increase after each coat
- Apply a further coat in the same manner
- If necessary, buff the floors using a fine screen before application of a final coat
Take reasonable precautions with the finish during the first few days after application:
- Do not cover (use protective sheets) or lay carpets onto the treated area during the first 7 days following application
- Appropriate protective measures (i.e. felt pads) should be taken for table and chair legs or other objects which could mark the floor
- Immediately wipe up any water or other liquid spillages and take particular care with flower pots
Floors treated with Bona Traffic Natural can take light foot traffic within 24 hours after final application. Furniture can be placed back on the following day of application, but laying carpets or rugs should be delayed by at least 48 hours.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Lacquered floors should be dry swept or vacuumed on a regular basis to remove surface particles of grit, dirt and small stones that could scratch or mark the surface. Wooden floors should never be saturated with water or cleaned with household detergents or cleaners, as part of a regular cleaning routine, as these could significantly reduce the longevity and performance of the floor varnish.
For more thorough cleaning and to remove surface scuffs and other marks, Bona has a range of pH-balanced floor cleaners and mops for the job. For regular cleaning, the pre-mixed, ready-to-go formulas provide a quick solution whilst the concentrated products are good for the scale of economy and deeper cleaning requirements.
